How much does a rental cost?
Prices fluctuate based on season, RV, availability, and amount of time. Prices fluctuate based on season, RV, availability, and amount of time. Most cost effective way (cost per day) is to go a week (7 days) or more. Weeks run a weekday to a weekday like a Monday-Monday or Friday-Friday with an afternoon pick-up and a morning return (less a 3 hour time difference). Shorter rentals are less expensive than a week, but are not pro-rated (the shorter the number of days rented, the higher the cost per day). You can contact us via phone or email for prices.
How do I pay for the rental?
All of our rental rates quoted are based on a discounted rate for paying cash or check. We also accept all major credit cards however paying by credit card will void the cash or check discount. We do require a major credit card for an imprint for security. We do NOT accept prepaid cards for the estimated rental charges or security deposit. We do NOT accept checks at departure (unless it is a certified bank check); all checks must be paid 2 weeks prior to pick up. For a payment method to qualify for rental it MUST bear the customer’s name that matches the driver’s license. Renter must also have a valid credit card or debit card with a Visa or MasterCard logo at departure for security deposit. The cardholder must also be present and listed on the contract as the primary renter or additional authorized driver.
Are there any coverages provided with the rental?
We charge a per day or per trip basic collision and comprehensive coverage which carry a $500 deducible for trailers and pop-ups. Trailers come with no liability coverage and the tow vehicle’s liability MUST transfer to the towed trailer.
Do I have to take the basic coverage?
Yes, unless you carry $1,000,000 liability (umbrella policies do not qualify) that will list Mike Ziegler’s Motor Home Rental Inc. as an additional insured and loss payee, as well as cover physical damage of the rental. We will then also need a certificate of insurance, or binder of insurance or a written letter from the insurance company that states our vehicle will be covered during the rental period, without this you must take our coverage, no exceptions.
Is there a cost for mileage?
There is no mileage charged on trailers.
What deposits are required?
Upon confirmation, we take approximately a 1/3 reservation deposit as down payment. This deposit will be applied toward your rental charges. Full payment is due 2 weeks prior to departure. A credit card imprint is taken at departure as a security deposit of $500 on trailers. Debit cards without a Visa or MasterCard logo are NOT accepted. Cards will not be charged until return unless otherwise agreed upon, all extra charges, if any, are balanced on the credit card imprint used for security deposit if not paid by due date on final invoice for extras.
What constitutes a “Rental Day”?
Similar to a hotel, the Rental Day is based on number of nights the vehicle is used. Each night constitutes a rental day, typically based on an afternoon departure and a morning return. Most cost effective way to go is by the week. Weeks run a week day to a week day like a Monday-Monday or Friday-Friday. You can go for longer or shorter periods of time but a week is the most cost effective. Minimum days sometimes do apply.
Do you deliver and pick up?

Besides the rental cost are there any other charges I will incur?

I want to rent a trailer but how do I know how much my vehicle can tow?
Check your tow vehicles owner’s manual or vehicle dealer for towing capacity. When using max towing capacity to determine which RVs your vehicle can safely tow, remember that passenger weight, optional equipment, and additional cargo needs to be added into the equation. Do not exceed your vehicle’s towing capacity because doing so can affect your vehicle’s stopping ability, handling, or possibly even damage the drivetrain. Dry weight is the weight of the RV without any liquids, passengers, or cargo. Manufacturers weigh new units before shipping them and record that weight as the Dry Weight. It is similar to Curb Weight for automobiles. Gross weight is the combined weight of the RV (dry weight), plus liquids, passengers, and cargo. Tongue weight is the weight placed on the hitch when the trailer is coupled to your vehicle. The tongue weight should be 10-15% of the RV’s gross vehicle weight. Hitches must be rated high enough to tow the trailer (class 3 hitch or higher for travel trailers). Look in your owner’s manual some hitches are rated higher than what the vehicle can tow. Your tow vehicle must be equipped with a round 7 way RV connector and electric brake control (brake control required by law on trailers registered over 3,000 pounds). Pop-ups only require a flat 4 electrical connection and do not require electric brakes, but are still recommended. We do sell and install hitches, electrical connectors, and brake controls at an additional cost and must be scheduled in advance. We do sell and rent the ball mounts with ball or ball if needed. A friction sway control is recommended on all trailers (additional rental cost of $27.65 minimum). A weight distribution ball mount assembly & friction sway control is recommended on larger trailers (based on your towing vehicle, at an additional rental cost, $41.65 minimum).
Are we allowed to travel into Canada?
Yes, you may enter Canada.
Are we allowed to travel into Mexico?
No, you are not allowed to travel into Mexico.
Is it possible to travel in the winter in the colder areas?
Yes, however, our trailers are “winterized” from approximately mid-October to late March. This means we have completely drained the water and holding tanks. This will prevent the tanks and pipes from freezing and bursting. If you chose to have your rental trailer “de-winterized” (so that you can use your sink, shower, and toilet) it will cost $80. You will need to exercise extreme care while traveling in a “de-winterized” trailer during frigid weather. You will need to run the heater at all times to protect the tanks and pipes from freeze damage, or in extreme cases you would need to put RV Anti-Freeze in the water and holding tanks (by doing so, you may not use any water systems). If the pipes or tanks were damaged from freezing, it is considered negligent damage and you will be responsible for the full cost of all repairs. If you have any more questions on the rental policies during winter, please contact us.
Are there any places we cannot take the RV?
Yes. Coverages are invalid if problems occur in restricted areas and all recovery expenses are at the renter’s own cost. Violations of these restrictions void damage waivers and the renter will be held liable for all vehicle damages including to tires, towing charges and other related expenses as a result of a breakdown associated with operating in these areas. Travel on all public and/or numbered roads is permitted. Be sure to be vigilant for low bridges, low hanging trees, and roads restricting larger vehicles. Travel on non-public roads, unpaved back roads, trails and the like commonly called logging roads or on any surface subjecting the vehicle to unreasonable damage or road hazard is prohibited. Due to restrictions on vehicle heights, propane gas, and parking, vehicles with propane are not permitted in Manhattan and are not permitted to travel through any underground or underwater tunnels. We reserve the right to restrict travel.
Is it safe to drink the water from the RV tank?
No, we do not recommend this. It is difficult to know if the water is potable when you fill the tank at a variety of locations. We recommend you use bottled water for drinking and cooking. The water from the tank is fine for washing and bathing. Trailers typically come with an empty tank of fresh water to make them lighter for towing. Trailers can be filled with water before departure at renter’s request.
What if the RV breaks down or there is an issue with it?
We have an emergency contact number to assist travelers to help get them back on the road as soon as possible, or help with an issue incurred.
Is there a ladder so we can get on the roof to watch the race?
No, all trailer do not have ladders and we do not recommend being on the roof for any reason for safety and to prevent damage.
Are there bike racks?
No, we do not offer bike racks for trailers at this time.
Are there levelers provided?
All trailers have crank down stabilizer jacks.
How can I learn to operate the components on the RV?
We will provide a familiarization tour (approximately 30 minutes to one hour) which is required to acquaint the customer and drivers with the operation of the vehicle before departure.
What happens if the RV I reserved is unavailable?
We will make every effort to provide the customer with the model requested. We reserve the right to substitute models of similar or higher grade. Should a model of lower grade be offered and accepted, liability will be limited to refund of price differential between models paid for and model taken.
Can I store items on the outside of the RV?
Sorry, storing items on the roof or exteriors are not permitted.
Is the customer responsible for any maintenance of the RV?
The customer is responsible for reporting mechanical failures immediately. Customers may be held responsible for mechanical damage due to negligence in vehicle operation or failure to provide normal maintenance.
