What kind of RVs do you rent?
We rent Class A (bus style) and Class C (van style) motor homes. Our website lists all of the types and sizes of RVs we rent.
How much does a rental cost?
Prices fluctuate based on season, RV, availability, and amount of time. Most cost effective way (cost per day) is to go a week (7 days) or more. Weeks run a weekday to a weekday like a Monday-Monday or Friday-Friday with an afternoon pick-up and a morning return (less a 3 hour time difference). Shorter rentals are less expensive than a week, but are not pro-rated (the shorter the number of days rented, the higher the cost per day). You can contact us via phone or email for prices.
How do I pay for the rental?
All of our rental rates quoted are based on a discounted rate for paying cash or check. We also accept all major credit cards however paying by credit card will void the cash or check discount. We do require a major credit card for an imprint for security. We do NOT accept prepaid cards for the estimated rental charges or security deposit. We do NOT accept checks at departure (unless it is a certified bank check); all checks must be paid 2 weeks prior to pick up. For a payment method to qualify for rental it MUST bear the customer’s name that matches the driver’s license. Renter must also have a valid credit card or debit card with a Visa or MasterCard logo at departure for security deposit. The cardholder must also be present and listed on the contract as the primary renter or additional authorized driver.
Is there any coverage provided with the rental?
We charge a per day or per trip basic collision and comprehensive coverage which carry a $1,000 deductible for motor homes. This includes state minimums for liability of $15,000 per Person; $30,000 per Accident; $5,000 Property Damage. The insurance company we use for the basic coverage also offers additional optional coverage for supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) which provides you supplemental liability insurance up to $1,000,000.
Will my personal auto insurance transfer to the motor home?
Possibly, all insurance companies are different and cover different things. A motor home is different from a private automobile, so some insurance companies will not cover a motor home. You will need to contact your insurance company to see if your insurance will transfer to a rented motor home. If your insurance does not transfer to the motor home you will only have our basic secondary coverage ($1,000 deductible on collision and comprehensive, liability of $15,000 per Person; $30,000 per Accident; $5,000 Property Damage). If your insurance does transfer your deductibles and liability are what you carry while you have the motor home. Your insurance is always first and ours in secondary.
Do I have to take the basic coverage?
Yes, even if your personal auto insurance transfers. Unless you carry $1,000,000 liability (umbrella policies do not qualify) that will list Mike Ziegler’s Motor Home Rental Inc. as an additional insured and loss payee, as well as cover physical damage of the rental unit, and include conversion coverage. We will then also need a certificate of insurance, or binder of insurance or a written letter from the insurance company that states our vehicle will be covered during the rental period, without this you must take our coverage, no exceptions.
What is the cost of mileage?
Motor homes will have an estimated mileage charge that will apply to your rental. The mileage rate is from .39¢ to .44¢ per mile dependent on the motor home. We do offer mileage packages that come in 500 mile increments and you get a .05¢ per mile discount (example: .39¢ becomes .34¢) At the end of the rental you will be refunded for any excess mileage charges (unless mileage is bought in a package), or be charged at the regular mileage rate for additional miles in excess of the estimated mileage.
What deposits are required?
Upon confirmation, we take approximately a 1/3 reservation deposit as down payment. This deposit will be applied toward your rental charges. Full payment is due 2 weeks prior to departure. A credit card imprint is taken at departure as a security deposit of $1,000 on motor homes. Debit cards without a Visa or MasterCard logo are NOT accepted. Cards will not be charged until return unless otherwise agreed upon, all extra charges, if any, are balanced on the credit card imprint used for security deposit if not paid by due date on final invoice for extras.
What constitutes a “Rental Day”?
Similar to a hotel, the Rental Day is based on number of nights the vehicle is used. Each night constitutes a rental day, typically based on an afternoon departure and a morning return. Most cost effective way to go is by the week. Weeks run a week day to a week day like a Monday-Monday or Friday-Friday. You can go for longer or shorter periods of time but a week or more is the most cost effective. Minimum days sometimes do apply.
Do you deliver and pick up?
Yes; Delivery and pick-up are available at an additional cost. Motor home delivery is $200 + $7 per mile, + gas and tolls. This is based on one way using Google maps quickest time. It would again be the same additional cost to pick it up after the rental.
Besides the rental cost are there any other charges I will incur?
There is tax on all the rental charges. Propane is full at departure and charges are based on what you use during your trip at $4.85 per gallon. Things that run on propane are the refrigerator (when not plugged in to electric), stove, water heater, & furnace. Customer agrees that they will return unit in the same condition as they received it (excluding normal wear). A minimum fee of $35 will be charged if the interior of the vehicle has not been cleaned. A minimum fee of $45 will be charged if the exterior of the vehicle has not been cleaned. Holding tanks must be emptied and reading empty on monitor panel prior to return of the vehicle or be subject to an additional dump charge of up to $35. Damages or loss of equipment will be paid for by the renter. The generator fee is $3.95 per hour (or 10 hour packages for $19.50 (no refund for unused hours when bought in a package). Generator usage will be collected upon return of the rental unless a generator package is purchased, then it is due before departure. The gasoline tank is to be returned at the same level it was picked up at or a fuel and service charge will be incurred.

Changes are subject to current availability. No changes will be permitted to a reservation once the cancellation deadline has passed. The person that made the reservation must be present at pickup and possess a valid credit card and driver’s license.
What if I have to cancel my reservation?
In the event of cancellation the reservation deposit will be credited towards a future rental within a year, except, the reservation deposit will be forfeited if canceled within 30 days of schedule departure date. Cancellation within 7 days prior to schedule departure will result in the total rental fee (less mileage charge) forfeited to Rental Co. regardless of Renter’s reason(s).

Is there a charge for the generator on a motor home?
Yes. The generator charge is $3.95 per hour as determined by an installed running time meter. Due to insurance regulations there MUST be a seat belt for every person (regardless of age) when traveling in the motor home. Our website shows each motor home and how many seat belts it is equipped with. Never exceed the maximum capacity as posted in the actual vehicle you will be using. Maximum capacity includes the vehicle, all fluids, all occupants and their gear. All passengers should use the provided seat belts. The total number of seat belts will vary according to the vehicle and according to the floor plan of the actual vehicle you are using. Child safety seats should be used where applicable (for PA visit https://www.penndot.gov/TravelInPA/Safety/TrafficSafetyAndDriverTopics/Pages/Child-Passenger-Safety.aspx ). The installation and use of these seats should follow the recommendation of the child seat manufacturer. Beds and overhead areas designed only for sleeping should not be occupied while the vehicle is in motion. The vehicle should be properly secured prior to travel. This includes locking the doors, stow the entry step, and secure the outside compartments. No one is allowed to be in a trailer while being towed. You Are Required To Comply With Applicable Law.

Customer must declare intention to tow prior to departure and warrant that the towing weight is within the tow weight restrictions of the motor home. A towing charge will be imposed. We do not provide any collision or liability coverage for damage to the towed object or for third- party injury inflicted by the towed object, under any circumstances.
Is it possible to travel in the winter in the colder areas?
Yes, however, our motor homes are “winterized” from approximately mid-October to late March. This means we have completely drained the water and holding tanks. This will prevent the tanks and pipes from freezing and bursting. If you chose to have your rental motor home “de-winterized” (so that you can use your sink, shower, and toilet) it will cost $80. You will need to exercise extreme care while traveling in a “de-winterized” motor home during frigid weather. You will need to run the heater at all times to protect the tanks and pipes from freeze damage, or in extreme cases you would need to put RV Anti-Freeze in the water and holding tanks (by doing so, you may not use any water systems). If the pipes or tanks were damaged from freezing, it is considered negligent damage and you will be responsible for the full cost of all repairs. If you have any more questions on the rental policies during winter, please contact us.
Are there any places we cannot take the RV?
Yes. Coverage is invalid if problems occur in restricted areas and all recovery expenses are at the renter’s own cost. Violations of these restrictions void damage waivers and the renter will be held liable for all vehicle damages including to tires, towing charges and other related expenses as a result of a breakdown associated with operating in these areas. Travel on all public and/or numbered roads is permitted. Be sure to be vigilant for low bridges, low hanging trees, and roads restricting larger vehicles. Travel on non-public roads, unpaved back roads, trails and the like commonly called logging roads or on any surface subjecting the vehicle to unreasonable damage or road hazard is prohibited. Due to restrictions on vehicle heights, propane gas, and parking, vehicles with propane are not permitted in Manhattan and are not permitted to travel through any underground or underwater tunnels. We reserve the right to restrict travel.
Do you have baby car seats and cribs available?
No. Please plan to bring your own car seats and/or cribs.
Is it safe to drink the water from the RV tank?
No, we do not recommend this. It is difficult to know if the water is potable when you fill the tank at a variety of locations. We recommend you use bottled water for drinking and cooking. The water from the tank is fine for washing and bathing. Motor homes come with a full tank of fresh water. Trailers come with an empty tank of fresh water to make them lighter for towing. Trailers can be filled with water before departure at renter’s request.
What if the RV breaks down or there is an issue with it?
We have an emergency contact number to assist travelers to help get them back on the road as soon as possible, or help with an issue incurred.
